Start the new year with an active affirmation for health and well being by joining us at the Alameda Yoga Station for our traditional first practice of the year. This workshop is geared toward experienced students, and will offer an all-around practice including both an energizing workout and lots of relaxation. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is recommended.
Intro To Pilates For Yoga Workshop

Learn fundamental Pilates’ principles and how to put them into action. You will learn to awaken your core muscles, increase flexibility, move more efficiently and develop better body awareness and balance. Each week we will weave Pilates mat exercises with yoga poses to enliven and harmonize your workout experience. A minimum of 4 months of yoga classes is required or by special permission of the instructor.

A 5-week introduction to the basic poses and concepts of Iyengar-style Hatha yoga. Recommended for newcomers, but not for those with special therapeutic needs. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is highly recommended.
Yoga on the Go: Integrating Practice into Busy Lives

When we’re overwhelmed by work, family, and other responsibilities, yoga becomes more important than ever. This workshop will focus on identifying your personal trouble areas; developing short, targeted practices to address those hot spots; and finding ways to practice yoga in special situations (office, travel, commuting, house guests, among daily disruptions, etc.) with limited props and time. We’ll also discuss sequencing basics, setting up a moveable practice space, and resources available in print and online. Please bring a notepad and pen; all levels welcome.
Building a Meditation Practice

We will explore how meditation can help us in daily living. A daily meditation practice increases awareness, concentration and is highly complementary to any movement practice like yoga. Meditation enhances a freer flow of energy as the body begins to open through learning to be present to our moment-to-moment experiences. Bring a notebook to start a meditation log.
Introduction to Hatha Flow Yoga

Hatha Flow Yoga is a dynamic sequencing of poses that flow from one another integrating breath, movement and mindfulness. Longer held standing, seated, and balance postures are explored. For this series, it is recommended that students have some basic knowledge of postures, and it is not intended for students with special therapeutic needs.
Breath in Asana
Teacher: Mary Lou Weprin
Price: $40 pre-registration, $45 at the door (space permitting)
Date & Time: Saturday, March 20, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
We will work with standing, seated, inverted and backbending poses from the standpoint of providing space for the breath in each particular pose. We will work with the concept of the three diaphragms, and explore how each asana has it’s own unique breathing pattern. We will experience how poses open the respiratory system for optimum breathing space and also provide deep releases for the exhalation. One year of practice in the Iyengar yoga tradition, and familiarity with headstand and shoulderstand required.
Family Yoga Workshop

Price: $25 for a dyad, $5 each additional person, children under 2 free

We will explore fun and engaging yoga poses, partner poses, breathing and relaxation exercises. Spend your Easter Sunday, deepening your bond with your children while promoting self-expression, physical and emotional health and relaxation. This workshop will be geared toward kids ages 3 - 5, but older and younger siblings welcome.
Day of Bliss and Spring Rejuvenation

Exploring some of the aspects of hatha yoga beyond asana, our practice will incorporate gentle stretching, restorative yoga (passive supported postures that promote deep relaxation), pranayama (yoga breathing practices), meditation and chanting, all aimed at moving us deeper into our experience of yoga and becoming more present and mindful on and off the mat.
